Cloth Diaper was one of those options I just never thought of pre-pregnancy, but something that I very naturally came upon when pregnant with my first baby. It was another one of those topics I was astonished to find out that had such little support or actual knowledge, and I was determined to get to know it all. I tried all different types and read up on them, which helped me realize that the mechanism of absorbency + waterproofness working together to catch things was quite simple (but for some reason, the idea of diapers all together was quite obscure and unknown to pre-baby-me). It didn't matter exactly how things were done, as long as you understood the key components, which I started sharing in my Cloth Diaper Workshops.
The sharing of my knowledge of cloth diapering originated from my love and passion to choose the best I could for my baby, to passing on that same spirit to other families. The workshops naturally started with being invited to share at hospital, public health program, and private program Childbirth Education Classes and Postpartum Support Groups I attended as a Doula, many many homes of doula clients ready to or had just recently welcomed their little one, and a weekly Cloth Diaper Workshop at Baby aWearness. There are countless brands and ways to care for and use cloth diapers, but knowing how it works, what works, and application to real life baby doodoo moments helps making it a successful experience.
It's also been amazing watching the whole cloth diapering popularity and industry grow! We cloth diapered our baby born in 2008 and 2015. 2008 was when cloth diapers were just making a full swing comeback, but still very limited only to those who searched for it. Options were getting convenient, but still limiting, and cute designs (over only solid colors, originally primarily only white or cream) were just starting to get launched.
Since then, much has evolved, and we even have a Disposable Diaper option to our Cloth Diapering system!
This innovation helped our baby born in 2015 to use the cloth diapering system 100% of the time, even on trips. We still personally prefer the more traditional 2 part system with the prefold diapers, but loving all the new options that actually lessened the bulk of what I used to have to endure carrying, like the Wet/Dry bag, I love you so!
